La Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

Well, it isn’t really a palace, a tad too small by French standards but in the eyes of a three year old it was A PALACE.  A  REAL  PINK  PALACE. The owner Béatrice de Rothschild daughter of famed banker and major art collector Baron Alphonse de Rothschild was of not much interest to Sugar. “Was she a princess?”, ummm no. “Was she a Queen?”, ahhhh no. “Does she know Marie Antoinette?” Not exactly. “Does she like pink?”, YES!!!!!

So with Sugar’s blessing we set out to not only find the most beautiful Villa on the Côte d’Azur but to start a love affair with a town called  Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Which in turn had me dreaming of an actual love affair with my husband sans children in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

As had become the norm during our travels entering anywhere with museum like standards was usually met with a weary eye and a cool reception. I think it was when Sam and I found ourselves staring at Boo (a stuffed dog that was getting a free trip through Europe) resting nicely on Béatrice de Rothschild’s pillow of her guarded and roped off bed with the faint aroma of my sons nappy swimming around us that I realised we were always best in a very big garden.
